7th ARSA International Conference “Recasting Peasantries for a Sustainable Future in Rural Asia: Multiple trajectories of modernization”

🌍✨ Dr. sayamol charoenratana
, Deputy Director of CUSRI, and Ms. Cholnapa Anukul, a partner researcher at CUSRI, participated and presented their work at the 7th ARSA International Conference, titled “Recasting Peasantries for a Sustainable Future in Rural Asia: Multiple trajectories of modernization,” held from September 7-9, 2024, at Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan. The event was organized by the Asian Rural Sociological Association (ARSA).

ARSA, established in 1992, is a collaboration between several Asian countries. Its key mission is to exchange knowledge, improve quality of life, and collectively produce meaningful research for rural development in Asia. This year’s conference saw approximately 200 participants from various countries.

💡 Dr. sayamol charoenratana and Ms. Cholnapa Anukul presented on the impacts of the Sirindhorn Dam on people’s lives. Even though over 50 years have passed since its construction, the dam’s effects on the surrounding communities are ongoing, and continued efforts are needed to mitigate these impacts.

🤝 Additionally, Dr. Sayamol was honored with the position of Vice President of the Asian Rural Sociological Association, where she will play a significant role in organizing the next conference in Beijing, China, four years from now.
